The most important architecture event of the year
The UIA World Congress of Architects 2026 Barcelona will draw over 10,000 professionals from around the globe, including experts in architecture, landscaping, and urban planning, alongside institutional representatives and the student community.
Over the course of three days, more than 250 speakers will gather across eight stages for over 100 sessions. The event will also feature a 4,000-square-meter central exhibition and seventy architectural tours across the region.
Located along the Mediterranean seafront—stretching from the iconic Tres Chimeneas turbine hall to key civic facilities—the Congress expands beyond the conventional conference format, inviting attendees to experience the city itself.

Barcelona is World Capital of Architecture 2026
Thirty years after Barcelona 1996, the city once again hosts the UIA World Congress of Architects, having been named the World Capital of Architecture 2026—a title reserved by the UIA and UNESCO for the host city.
The city will become a stage for debating challenges regarding sustainability, ecology and housing within a Mediterranean environment shaped by climate change. Witness Barcelona as the epicenter of Gaudí Year events and the protagonist of the global architectural debate.
The World Congress of Architects is convened by the International Union of Architects (UIA) and organised by the Higher Council of the Orders of Architects of Spain (CSCAE) and the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC). It is made possible thanks to the institutional support of Spain’s Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda, the Government of Catalonia and Barcelona City Council, which have recognized it as an event of exceptional public interest.
